The Institute for Public and Creative Scholarship (IPCS) will create a collaborative, transdisciplinary environment to foster the development of research in innovative, public-facing formats. The Institute will fold into the Humanities Center as a flagship enterprise within it, drawing upon its staff and space. The Institute will provide education and training for faculty and students in tools and techniques in computation and media production enabling public engagement in formats including: books and articles for non-academic audiences, videographic criticism, podcasts, documentaries, and AR/VR experiences. The Institute will not merely be a hub for the dissemination of scholarly work, however. In these efforts, the Institute will also enact research on developing next-generation tools and platforms. These tools will synergistically integrate emerging computational technologies such as generative AI and AR/VR with established forms of scholarly communication. These approaches will leverage narrative and expository methodologies from the humanities, and pair them with digital media tools to enable effective public engagement applicable to research from all schools, departments, and programs at UR.
